The Brown County Library will kick off its 2026 Summer Reading Program with a family-oriented celebration on Saturday, June 6, 2026, from 10 a.m.-12 p.m. at the Central Library, 515 Pine St.
Local favorites Miller and Mike perform their interactive comedy juggling show at 10:30 a.m. This free family event will also feature the loveable and mischievous brown monkey costume character, Curious George, star of the popular children’s books by Margaret and H.A. Rey. Attendees can join in a group art project, go on a scavenger hunt, play carnival games, take part in activities in the Cellcom Children’s Edible Garden and participate in other hands-on fun.
A special presentation will celebrate the winners of the 2026 Design-a-Bookmark Contest across four distinct age categories. Each will receive a set of bookmarks showcasing their designs, along with a large version of their bookmark. The winning designs and the runners-up can be viewed online at browncountylibrary.org/bookmark.
The Brown County Summer Reading Program takes place June 6 through August 10, 2026, and encourages reading for all age groups — babies, kids, teens, and adults.
Reading for enjoyment is essential for regular and effective reading practice, helping to prevent the “summer slide,” and allows kids and teens to maintain and/or improve their reading skills while they are out of school.
The Early Literacy Program is recommended for ages 0-4. This program engages families and lays the groundwork for lifelong readers. It integrates the five practices of reading, singing, talking, writing and playing through fun, interactive activities and helps develop language and literacy skills.
The Children’s Program, designed for kids through grade 5, encourages children to read for fun and visit the library often. Programs and activities help develop positive attitudes about reading. The program for Tweens and Teens, aimed at grades 6 and up, allows reading a variety of formats including books, magazines, audio books, graphic novels and digital options.
Over 50 local businesses have generously donated prizes and incentives that readers can earn throughout the summer.
As they track their reading, adults will gain entries for a grand prize drawing to win one of several themed gift packages of local interest.
The Summer Reading Program is made possible through the funding support of the Friends of the Brown County Library and the Nicolet Library System, along with contributions from numerous businesses and organizations.
Keep the summer fun going with free family-friendly events at the Brown County Library! Summer event calendars are available at all Brown County Library locations and online at browncountylibrary.org/events.
Adults, celebrate summer reading with Pints with a Purpose at Zambaldi Beer, 1649 S Webster Ave, Green Bay, on Wednesday, June 17 from 3-9 p.m.
Zambaldi Beer will donate $1 of every pint, to-go growler or to-go 6 pack sold on June 17 to the Friends of the Brown County Library. Adults who sign up for the Adult Summer Reading Program at the Pints with a Purpose event will get their pick of a complimentary book to get their summer reading started (while supplies last).
