City of Neighborhoods: Bay Highlands

GREEN BAY – One of Green Bay Neighborhood’s smallest Neighborhood Associations (NA), Bay Highlands, is made up of just 150 homes.

However, that doesn’t stop them from hosting some of the area’s most exciting events, with a strong emphasis on the interactive experiences for the local youth.

“I know we’re really little,” said Nicki Goldman, president of Bay Highlands NA.
“(In) our neighborhood, lots of people are pretty close knit, and we watch out for each other.”

Goldman has been president of Bay Highlands NA for just under two years, and in that time, she stepped into the role as coordinator for many of the neighborhood’s favorite events.

One of the NA’s upcoming events is their ice cream social, which will be thrown in early June.

This event is the perfect way for the local youth and their adults alike to relax after closing out yet another school year.

Then, to get the area back into the groove for the start of fall and another round of school, Bay Highlands throws an end-of-summer block party with bounce houses and more.

Next, Bay Highlands wastes no time in coordinating their annual Halloween event, trick-or-trunk.

But what seemed to be the NA’s favorite event of the year comes around in turkey season.

Yearly on the morning of Thanksgiving, a Bay Highlands NA member throws their annual Mash Dash in partnership with Prevea.

This dash was recognized by Green Bay Neighborhoods (GBN) as one of the best community events hosted by a Neighborhood Association, raising thousands of dollars each year.

The Mash Dash is a two-mile run for adults and half mile run for kids, and proceeds of the trot go to the Freedom House, a local homeless relief center.

Because of their attentive planning for holiday events and their consistent emphasis on the importance of community, Bay Highlands hosts year-round events similar in size and impact to some of GBN’s largest neighborhood associations.

This is one of the many reasons this NA is known best, not for its smaller stature, but for its family style functionality and continuous attention to detail.

The association was incorporated in 1980 by property owners within the plat of Bay Highlands.
