ArtFest Green Bay 2025 community art project unveiled

Posted

A highlight of ArtFest Green Bay 2025, Community Bloom, was officially unveiled on Wednesday, Aug. 27, at its permanent home, 1335 Main St. in the Olde Main Street District. Following the dedication, community members were invited to join the project’s first planting with the help of The Plant People.

Created by local artists Laura Schley and Annie Stenseth, Community Bloom is a vibrant mosaic art installation celebrating connection, diversity and shared creativity.

The piece features hand-laid glass tiles arranged in playful, intersecting circles and mandalas — symbolizing unity, wholeness and the beauty of differences coming together.

Community participation was at the heart of the project.

During the July 19-20 ArtFest weekend, festival-goers of all ages and abilities helped place colorful tiles under the artists’ guidance.

Schley and Stenseth then completed the installation by setting the tiles and applying grout.

Adding to its story, the 2,400-pound concrete planter used for the mosaic was repurposed from downtown Green Bay, transforming a piece of the city’s past into art for its future.

“This project is a perfect example of what happens when creativity meets community,” said Jenny VandenLangenberg, director of first impressions for Downtown Green Bay, Inc. “Every tile placed was a small act of connection.

Together, we transformed a piece of our city’s history into a vibrant symbol of unity that will inspire joy for all who see it.”
