DE PERE – The De Pere Service Clubs have named Michael Cotter as the 2023 recipient of the De Pere Community Silver Knight Award.
“Mike has been serving the community of De Pere and surrounding charitable organizations in a variety of capacities for many years,” they said in a joint press release.
“Mike was a volunteer coach for girls and boys grade school, high school and AA U basketball. He was a founding member of Celebrate De Pere, an Optimist Club member, board member for the Shrine of Our Lady of Good Hope, a member of the Suicide Coalition of Brown County, spearheaded the start of ‘Survivors of Suicide’ group and a volunteer for the Salvation Army.
”Mike and his wife JoAnn started the nonprofit organization ‘Hands Across De Pere’ to benefit less fortunate kids in De Pere and led a campaign, called Hope Squad, to raise $70,000 to bring a professional trainer to the Green Bay/De Pere area to train all schools in suicide prevention.”
Cotter will be honored at the Silver Knight Awards Banquet on Monday, Oct. 23, at the Swan Club in De Pere.
The Silver Knight Award has been awarded through nomination from De Pere service clubs and civic organizations since 1968.
Awardees are decided by past recipients.
