Starting February 1, visitors to Mulva Cultural Center are invited to enter an intergalactic journey with the opening of Unofficial Galaxies, an exhibit showcasing one of the world’s largest private Star Wars memorabilia fan collections.
The exhibit, running through April 27, features an array of iconic artifacts that will thrill fans and collectors alike.
The collection started in 1980, originally focused on toys but soon expanded to include rare items such as movie props and life-sized replicas.
One of the highlights of the exhibit is a full-sized, working, drivable Landspeeder from Elstree Studios, where parts of the original Star Wars movies were filmed.
Other notable items in the collection include the desk and chair of Anakin Skywalker from The Phantom Menace, Star Wars toys dating from 1977, General Grievous’ head and costumes from Princess Leia, Anakin Skywalker and Kit Fisto.
“Through this extraordinary collection, we are showcasing different aspects of pop culture, including the world of fan culture,” said Claudia Damiani, Mulva Cultural Center director of exhibits and education. “For generations, these films have captured the imaginations of audiences, and we’re thrilled to offer an opportunity for visitors to immerse themselves in the galaxy far, far away with family and friends.”
As a companion to the exhibit, a Star Wars movie marathon will start Friday, Feb. 7 with a different Star Wars movie playing every weekend until April 19.
This lineup includes all nine episodes in the Skywalker Saga plus Solo: A Star Wars Story and Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.
On February 8 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., the Mulva Cultural Center will celebrate the new exhibit with a Rebel Rebellion: Unofficial Galaxies Fan Day where visitors are encouraged to dress as their favorite movie characters.
The event will feature a galaxy-inspired art project, movie-themed treats and drinks in Café on Broadway and a photo backdrop with props to capture the fun.
Unofficial Galaxies is in no way linked to Disney Enterprises Inc., Lucasfilm Ltd LLC, Lucas Licensing Ltd., or Lucas Entertainment Company Ltd. LLC. The exhibition is a privately owned collection.
