Future 15: Meghan Walsh

Posted

Each year, the Greater Green Bay Chamber recognizes and honors young professionals making a real impact through leadership and innovation as well as workplaces where the next generation thrives through the Future 15, Young Entrepreneur of the Year and Next Generation Best Place to Work awards.

These award recipients and finalists will be recognized in March at the Future 15 and Young Professional Awards event, and will also be featured in stories in the Press Times each week leading up to the event.

This week, get to know Future 15 award winner Meghan Walsh.

Born and raised in Milwaukee, Meghan Walsh now calls Green Bay home with her husband, Sean, and son, Matthew.

After serving as the adult, docent and school programs administrator at the Milwaukee Art Museum and as the dean of the School of Adult Learning and New Initiatives at Alverno College, Walsh currently serves as executive director of St. Norbert College’s (SNC) Academic Advising and Career Development Center, in addition to being involved in non-profit leadership roles at organizations like Meta House, Wisconsin Lutheran High School and AWE in Milwaukee.

The most influential experiences in getting to where she is now, Walsh said, have been, “Engaging with Young Professional Groups like CYP at the Greater Green Bay Chamber and completing Leadership Green Bay this last year,” in addition to taking advantage of “Opportunities to lead at my organizations, and serve on campus-wide committees, especially those related to strategic planning and innovation.”

Of course, there have also been influential people along her journey, like Kevin Quinn, dean of the Schneider School of Business at SNC.

“Kevin is a student-centered leader,” Walsh said. “I try to emulate his way of innovating - he always asks, ‘How is this making SNC better for students? How is this preparing our students to serve our world?’ He has been a huge supporter of mine since my first day at SNC, always offering a listening ear, critical feedback and measured advice.”

Having earned her EdD (Doctor of Education) from Baylor University, Walsh considers herself a “scholar and practitioner of student success” and has her sights set on advancing even further in her career.

“I hope to continue growing and expanding my work in higher education,” she said. “My ambition is to lead at the vice president, or maybe even president level of a college someday.”

To those just starting out on their professional paths, Walsh recommends, “Say yes and show up! If you want to be noticed for big opportunities, you have to be consistent and reliable. The world needs what you have to offer.”
