Future 15: Tom Murphy

Posted

GREEN BAY – “My parents relocated from the Chicagoland area when I was a toddler, so while I was not born here, I do consider Northeast Wisconsin home,” Tom Murphy said.

Murphy and his wife, Tracy, currently live in the village of Bellevue.

“Together we have three children, as well as a cat and dog, both rescues from a local animal shelter,” Murphy added.

“I am a product of the Green Bay Area Public School District, graduating from Preble High. After high school, I earned an associate degree in information technology and began my professional career, taking an entry-level IT position with Bellin Health.

“In 2014, I enrolled at Western Governor’s University to continue working on achieving my bachelors degree. A month later, my wife enrolled for her bachelors degree as well. We were both working full time, raising two kids and taking online classes at night. But that wasn’t enough of a challenge for us, so I went and got a new job at the same time, moving to WEC Energy Group, the parent company of Wisconsin Public Service.

“After wrapping up a Bachelor of Science degree, I spent roughly two years at WEC before moving to Associated Bank, where I have been employed since as a senior infrastructure engineer. I work with all manner of technology, focusing on infrastructure components such as servers/storage, email systems and cloud technologies. Not unlike constructing a house, before the structure can be built, a strong foundation must be in place. I design and manage the foundational components that Business Analysts then use to deploy business applications on top of.”

In 2022, after enrolling in the Leadership Green Bay program, friends and neighbors asked Murphy to run for the Bellevue Village Board.

“I collected signatures and got on the ballot for the spring general election in April 2023. It was great going door-to-door speaking with residents about their concerns and vision for the future of Bellevue. I was one of four candidates vying for two board positions, and ultimately was elected to serve on the village board, where I now represent almost 17,000 residents, am accountable for a $31 million annual operating budget and $38 million five-year capital improvement plan,” he stated.

“I believe strongly in civic engagement and community service. I have served on Current Young Professional’s Civic Engagement committee for several years and have also served on several committees for the Village of Bellevue.

“Additionally, I love volunteering with my children and have been honored with several Presidential Volunteer Service awards. I am also actively volunteering as an election inspector, helping to ensure our elections are run securely and efficiently.”

Leading up to the 2025 Future 15 & Young Professionals Awards banquet on Thursday, Feb. 27 at the Oneida Casino Hotel, we will be highlighting the finalists in each edition of the Press Times.
