Green Bay, Conservation Corps seek volunteers for Earth Day

Posted

GREEN BAY – The City of Green Bay will be co-hosting an Earth Day event just days before the NFL Draft kicks off in Green Bay and is looking for volunteers.

Scheduled for Tuesday, April 22, 9 a.m. - 1 p.m., the event aims to bring together over 300 volunteers at the Bay Beach Wildlife Sanctuary for a day of environmental stewardship and community engagement.

Participants will contribute to various conservation efforts, including tree planting, trail system improvements, invasive species removal and park clean-up.

“This is a fantastic partnership between the city and our Conservation Corps to put our best foot forward to celebrate Earth Day and to make sure that our community is looking fantastic as we have hundreds of thousands of visitors coming to the City of Green Bay,” said Green Bay Mayor Eric Genrich.

“We are an Americorps program, funded federally and through the state. This volunteer opportunity came to us because we got an additional funding through the Volunteer Generation Fund, which was awarded to us through the state,” explained Conservation Corps Coordinator Maria Otto.

“This collaborative effort between the City of Green Bay and AmeriCorps demonstrates the city’s strong commitment to environmental conservation and community involvement, while also preparing the city for the influx of visitors expected for the NFL Draft. The Bay Beach Wildlife Sanctuary, known for its nature-based educational programs and wildlife rehabilitation efforts, serves as the perfect backdrop for this eco-friendly initiative,” a city release added.

Volunteers are required to pre-register.
