Green Bay Police Community Academy returns this fall

Posted

GREEN BAY – The Green Bay Police Department (GBPD) is currently accepting applications for its Community Academy.

The eight-week, no-cost course is an interactive opportunity for participants to better understand GBPD “divisions, functions and objectives.”

“Participants will learn about specialty units, including the Marine Unit, Dive Team, K9 and Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT). They will also hear from patrol officers, investigations, recruiting staff, 9-1-1 dispatchers and forensics specialists. In addition, the program offers hands-on demonstrations—such as fingerprint lifting,” a GBPD release stated.

The program runs Aug. 27 – Oct. 15, held on Wednesdays from 6-8 p.m., primarily at the Green Bay Police Department, 307 S. Adams St., Green Bay.

The program is open to Brown County residents and those from surrounding areas; however, priority is given to Green Bay residents and first-time attendees.

“The class size will be limited to 30 students; therefore, we ask that registrants commit to attending each week,” the release added.
Due to the structure of the academy, a criminal background check will be run on each applicant.

To register, visit www.greenbaywi.gov/1075/Community-Academy, or contact (920) 448-3260 or melanie.skalmoski@greenbaywi.gov.
The deadline to turn in required forms is Friday, Aug. 15.
