Green Bay – The Green Bay Preble Hornets (2-3 overall) defeated Green Bay Southwest Trojans (2-3 overall) 42-14 on Thursday, Sept. 17.
“That second half I thought they played a really high-class version of football,” said Preble Head Coach Brad Boockmeier.
The Hornets were able to jump out to an early 7-0 lead after an Abrian Allen touchdown. The Hornets would then take on another touchdown late in the first quarter to make the score 14-0. The Trojans did respond with a touchdown from Traevaughn Weaver to make it 14-7.
Not long after Kaden Morales scored a kickoff return touchdown to make the game 21-7.
“It was all my blockers, I saw open field, I took it up field and then took it to the crib,” said Hornets wide receiver Kaden Morales.
The Trojans did respond with a touchdown before half to cut the halftime lead for the Hornets to 21-14.
The Hornets were dominant in the second half outscoring the Trojans 21 to 0. The Hornets were able to blow the game open after another touchdown from Kaden Morales to make the score 35-14. The Hornets would then score one last touchdown to make the score 42-14, after Abrian Allen scored his second touchdown of the game.
“We’re proud of bouncing back, we had a tough week last week, but we came out here tonight and fought hard,” said Morales.
Morales also talked about how him and his team kept their focus out of halftime by just focusing on walking away after the game with a win.
“That feeling at the end of the game winning with your buddies, that feeling you have to look forward to that,” said Morales.
Coach Boockmeier discussed what the biggest keys to the second half success that the Hornets were able to have.
“We just challenged the guys at halftime especially on defense we gave up too many big plays, we really challenged them, and they responded really well,” said Boockmeier.
“The first half both teams got caught up in the heat of the moment and the other thing we challenged them on was playing classy football. You play aggressive between the whistles but after the whistles you shut down all the extracurriculars,” said Boockmeier.
Next week the Hornets will look to continue their winning ways when they travel to De Pere next week to face the Redbirds (3-2 overall).
The Trojans will look to get back on the winning track next week when they host the Ashwaubenon Jaguars (3-2 overall).
