GREEN BAY — The Green Bay West Wildcats (3-0 overall) defeated longtime rival Green Bay East Red Devils (0-3 overall) 37-8 in their 121st faceoff, held this year at City Stadium.
“I’m proud of each and every guy here. Each kid understands their role. It didn’t matter how many reps a kid got — they were locked in,” said Wildcats Head Coach Drew Brusoe.
This win puts the Wildcats up 3-0 on the season for the first time since the early 1990s.
Recap
The Wildcats asserted their dominance early, going up 13-0 in the first quarter with a two-yard rush from running back Kash Lowe with 5:48 left in the first quarter and a long ball from quarterback Urijah Moore that was fumbled by Liam Letzia but recovered in the endzone by teammate Carter Morris.
Letizia and Moore each got their own points on the board in the second quarter — while holding the Red Devils off the board, the Wildcats managed to lengthen their lead to 30-0 going into the half with a field goal from Vincent Moyano just before the break.
Moore found the endzone for a second time in the third quarter to bring the score up to 37-0.
The Red Devils finally found the endzone in the fourth quarter when quarterback Anthony Blanc Hohn had a big gain to get the Red Devils in range for an Andy Brawner touchdown with 10:44 left in the game.
Blanc Hohn ran it in for the two-point conversion to bring the final score to 37-8 on the night.
Though East still leads the series 64-54-3, West is off to one of their best seasons in several decades.
“It’s our rival and things always get chippy, but we stayed composed and I think that was a defining moment for our culture and it was a beautiful team win,” said linebacker Luke Rissling.
Rissling, who made an appearance on Beyond the Boxscore podcast with the Press Times just a few weeks ago, mentioned that he was proud to go Green Bay West where he had the opportunity to be a big part of changing the culture and seeing growing success within the program.
The Wildcats’ victory over the Red Devils on Friday, Sept. 4, was proof of that coming to fruition.
“We’re here. We’re a serious football team — we’re competent and we’re ready to play,” said Rissling.
Though the team is on the hunt to break their playoff bid drought, they still have a touch schedule ahead in the FRCC-South that starts with hosting Oshkosh North at home next week.
