A new ‘90s-era coming-of-age movie is set to film at Bay Beach Amusement Park on Saturday, Aug. 9, and the production is calling on the Green Bay community to be part of the magic.
Filmmakers are looking for local extras to appear in a pivotal scene being shot that day.
All ages are welcome.
To participate, just show up dressed in 90s-style wardrobe and hair — think baggy jeans, windbreakers, scrunchies, flannel shirts, retro sneakers and definitely no modern, form-fitting clothes.
“This movie is a love letter to the late ‘90s — the music, the friendships, the fashion — and we wanted to bring part of it to life right here in Wisconsin,” said writer/Director Josh “Rip” Mallett. “Bay Beach has that perfect old-school charm and we’re excited to feature the community in a big way.”
The scene will be shot throughout the day on Aug. 9 and while no acting experience is necessary, extras must be comfortable being filmed and remain on site for several hours.
Participation is not paid, but everyone who shows up dressed in proper 90s attire may appear in the final cut of the movie.
Filming is expected to begin in the afternoon and continue into the early evening.
Those interested in participating should follow updates on the film’s official website, www.90s.movie, and on social media, instagram.com/Ultimate.90s.Movie, for exact timing and wardrobe inspiration.
Ultimate 90s Movie (working title) is being produced by 25-year music industry veteran Joshua “Rip” Mallett, a voting member of the Recording Academy (GRAMMYs).
Mallett holds an RIAA Platinum Plaque for his contributions to the project that helped launch Chicago music icons Twista and Kanye West to Platinum status for the first time in their careers.
This marks Mallett’s first feature-length film production, following his official transition from music to film earlier this year.
