How would you describe your music?
Bassel & The Supernaturals blend soul, funk, and Middle Eastern influence into a powerful fusion driven by tight grooves, heartfelt storytelling, and a humanitarian message — embodying a Syrian heart and Midwest soul.
What inspires you to create music?
I’m inspired by both the richness and the challenges of life. My family, my Syrian heritage and moments of genuine, empathetic human connection all fuel my creativity. As a first-generation Syrian-American, I also draw from the struggle of navigating otherness in the U.S. and from the pain endured by Syrians who have lost loved ones and been displaced by over a decade of war.
Through music, I aim to shine a light on the darkness surrounding Syria and use our platform to help build a more hopeful future for immigrants and refugees.
What is your favorite part of performing live?
For me, performing live is a chance to turn music into a force for justice. I’m inspired by how artists like Otis Redding used their platform to challenge segregation and bring people together across lines that were meant to divide. I carry that spirit into every show - not just to entertain, but to confront the systems and narratives that dehumanize. I perform to amplify Middle Eastern voices that are too often erased, and to demand space for our stories, our struggles, and our joy. Music is my form of resistance — and a call for radical empathy.
What are you most looking forward to audiences hearing/experiencing at your concert?
What I’m most excited for audiences to experience is the energy and musicianship that Bassel & The Supernaturals bring to the stage. Our sound fuses deep-pocket funk, soulful melodies, and jazz-influenced improvisation — all grounded in powerful storytelling.
Beneath the grooves, we’re amplifying the voices of the Syrian diaspora and calling attention to the struggles of refugees worldwide. We want people dancing, reflecting, connecting — feeling both the joy and the urgency in the music. It’s about celebration and solidarity.
