New Day Women’s Center cuts the ribbon on new location

Posted

GREEN BAY – The New Day Women’s Center in Green Bay has been helping the local community of women in crisis for over two years now but this summer, when flash flooding left their building condemned, the community stepped in to aid them.

Now, they cut the ribbon to officially welcome their new location to the community at 201 W. Walnut St. Suite 100.

Angela Cheslock, Executive Director of the non-profit, says it was a “blessing in disguise”. With the support and donations from the community, the center was able to relocate less than a mile down the road into a building twice the size of their original space.

Cheslock spoke about the numerous amenities this new structure allows them to offer; including but not limited to private spaces for meetings, a laundry room and a parking lot for volunteers.

The center also now houses a children’s playroom for women with children seeking resources during the day. These features may not seem large, but they are crucial for building the safe space New Day works to offer for every woman in need.

Cheslock highlighted the crucial impact the community had in the reopening of the center, “We are so grateful for everyone who made this possible...There would have been so many people not receiving care because of it”.

If you are interested in helping the center continue its mission of helping the community, Cheslock said they are accepting donations of non-perishables, hygiene items and gently used household items.

They are also in need of additional volunteers to accommodate the larger space — you can apply directly from the New Day website or at the Brown County Volunteer Center.

For anyone wishing to visit the new building, a Connect & Create event is being held Oct. 23, 6- 9 p.m. for women 16 and up; it will feature festive treats and cider as well as uninterrupted hours of connection for anyone who participates. Registration is required prior to the event which is available at www.newdaywc.org.
