Jack Jorgensen is a senior at De Pere on the football and basketball teams.
The Redbirds are coming off a 19-15 victory over Bay Port.
Jorgensen does a little bit of everything on the field, including pinning opponents deep with his punts.
De Pere has key games coming up against West De Pere, Notre Dame Academy and Pulaski.
On the hardwood this past winter, Jorgensen was the third-leading scorer for the Redbirds, who lost in the WIAA Division I sectional finals and finished 22-4.
How different was it playing spring football and having the non-traditional teams in the Fox River Classic Conference (FRCC)?
“It was different. Usually, as the season goes on, the weather gets colder. In the spring, it got warmer as the season progressed. Playing a schedule of teams outside of the FRCC was a unique experience. Normally, it doesn’t take much to get pumped for a cross-town rival game against guys you know. However, it took everyone’s love for the game and competitiveness to get excited about those games.”
Talk about the De Pere football staff.
“They teach us how to be better players, push us to be the best and have been instrumental in the growth I have undergone during my time in high school.”
Talk about your football honors.
“I was first-team all-conference in the spring at cornerback, and I am working to be all-conference in multiple positions this fall.”
What’s your most embarrassing football moment?
“The first varsity game my sophomore year, I got pushed into the opponent's sideline multiple times by a guy who ended up being an all-region receiver. It was a wake-up call. There is a significant difference between freshman and varsity football.”
Do you prefer grass or turf?
“Turf because the weather has little effect on the surface compared to grass.”
What’s the hardest part about dealing with a loss?
“Watching the film afterward to see the mistakes made.”
If you could be somebody for a day in a basketball sense, who would it be?
“Giannis Antetokounmpo from the Milwaukee Bucks. It would be cool to know what it feels like to have an entire city’s support and love after years of putting in work to bring back a championship.”
Is it hard to see the skilled players get most of the recognition?
“It is. Every position is equally difficult and deserves the same amount of respect. Without every position group doing their job, winning would be hard.”
What’s something about you most people don’t know?
“My sophomore year was the first time I played defense. Up until then, I played quarterback.”
What are your college aspirations?
“Go to a four-year university to get a degree in actuarial science or finance and play football or basketball.”
A cruise or flying to a destination?
“Flying because you aren’t stuck on a ship for a whole vacation.”
Best Packers game ever watched?
“Super Bowl XLV against the Pittsburg Steelers.”
What four words describe you?
“Hard-working, dedicated, reliable, quick-witted.”
What’s your favorite music genre?
“Rap.”
What’s one thing you feel should be changed to helmets to keep you safe?
“Helmets should have padding which can be molded to the shape of the player's head.”
Who’s your favorite football player?
“Tyreek Hill from the Kansas City Chiefs because whenever he touches the ball, there’s a chance he’s going to score.”
Davante Adams or Aaron Rodgers?
“Davante Adams.”
What are you looking forward to at De Pere?
“Being back to in-person learning and seeing my friends every day. I want to soak it in and enjoy every moment my senior year with my friends and family.”
Favorite in-season activity to attend with friends?
“Team dinners the night before a game.”
