Official Mesabi Trail Ribbon Cutting September 15.

Posted

Celebrate the Mesabi Trail’s completion with an official ribbon-cutting ceremony on September 15th and hear from public speakers who were instrumental to the development of the trail. Enjoy refreshments and light appetizers.

The Mesabi Trail will celebrate the completion of a 6.5-mile section between Tower and Embarrass on September 15th.  The 160-plus-mile trail draws outdoor recreationists year-round, including bikers and walkers.  The Mesabi stretches across northern Minnesota and ranks as the state’s longest paved trail. This long-awaited milestone caps decades of work to connect the trail system.

The paved, approximately 165-mile trail begins in Ely, a well-known BWCA entry point.  A new trailhead center with restroom and water facilities is a great place to start. The trail meanders through Iron Range towns before ending in Grand Rapids, MN.

Private donors, the Legislative-Citizen Commission on Minnesota Resources, and the Minnesota Environment and Natural Resources Trust Fund funded the trail's construction.
