NORTHEAST WISCONSIN – On Dec. 7, 1941, the Japanese military launched a surprise attack on Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, targeting the U.S. naval base.
This assault resulted in the destruction of numerous ships and aircraft and the loss of over 2,400 American lives.
The event marked a turning point in history, leading to the United States' entry into World War II.
The Door County Maritime Museum, Sturgeon Bay, hosted a Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day with members of the US Coast Guard (USCG) Auxiliary Division 095-47 Green Bay and Flotilla 47-02 Green Bay present.
Also attending the somber event were members USCG Station Sturgeon Bay, Marie Safety Detachment Sturgeon Bay and the USCG Cutter Mobile Bay.
Sturgeon Bay Sea Scouts delivered the invocation, rang eight bells and laid a wreath in the bay as part of the event.
The keynote speaker was Sea Scout Skipper Kay who talked about Sea Scouts and Boy Scouts who were at Pearl Harbor that day.
