Pulaski dominates line of scrimmage in victory over De Pere

Posted

PULASKI – Dominating. That’s about the only way to describe the Pulaski football team’s Fox River Classic Conference-North (FRCC) victory over De Pere on Sept. 5.

Behind a bruising running attack, strong line play and three touchdowns from Brock Weideman, the Red Raiders turned back the Redbirds 28-10 at Pulaski High School.

On a night with a strong westerly wind, Pulaski pounded the line of scrimmage with its run game – only throwing the ball a handful of times.

“We are really proud of our guys,” Pulaski Coach Jerad Marsh said. “We were able to get some chunk plays and control the line of scrimmage, especially in the second half. Our guys had a really nice game – De Pere is a good ball club that was playing down a man or two tonight.”

The 5-foot-10, 190-pound Weideman had touchdown runs in the first, second and fourth quarters.

Weideman’s first score came with about three minutes showing on the first quarter clock to give the Red Raiders (1-2 overall, 1-0 FRCC) a 7-0 lead after Miles Wippel’s extra point.

After De Pere (1-2, 0-1) tied it at seven early in the second quarter, kicker Mason Bratonia nailed a 40-yard field goal into the wind to bump the Redbirds’ lead to 10-7 near the end of the first half.

On the ensuing Pulaski punt, De Pere fumbled, setting up Weideman’s second score of the night.

With Wippel’s extra point, the Red Raiders took a 14-10 lead into halftime.

After a scoreless third period, Weideman finished off his big night by scoring from seven yards out in the fourth quarter to cap a 94-yard scoring drive.

Anthony Ficarri ended the scoring late in the game on a three-yard TD run.

Both De Pere and Pulaski are back in FRCC-North action on Thursday, Sept. 11.

De Pere hosts Ashwaubenon (2-1, 1-0), while Pulaski entertains Green Bay Southwest (0-3, 0-1).
