PULASKI – Every Wisconsinite knows you can expect to find a bar on just about every corner.
But take a look back at Pulaski’s history, and you might be surprised to learn that meat markets were once just as common.
The Pulaski Historical Society is bringing a committee to life to preserve that piece of the community’s history through stories, photos and artifacts straight from the community.
Tammy Brezeczkowski shared the committee’s goals for the project, which go beyond exploring Pulaski’s unique meat-market history and why those businesses eventually disappeared. The group also hopes to create a “glimpse of the past” for generations to come.
As new generations become part of the community, Brezeczkowski said it’s important that they understand where Pulaski came from and hear the experiences of the people who helped shape it.
The project is still looking for community members willing to volunteer, as well as anyone with photos, artifacts or recipes to contribute (even on loan). Those interested in sharing can contact Brezeczkowski directly at tammy@dynamicdesignspulaski.com.
The Historical Society is also looking for volunteers to help with its YouTube channel, where community members can share their own recollections and stories. “Artifacts don’t tell the stories, the people tell the stories,” Brezeczkowski said
The exhibit is expected to open in the summer of 2027, with a special Polish sausage-making event planned to follow.
If you have a story, photo, artifact or recipe to share, now is the time to help preserve a piece of Pulaski’s past! Visit pulaskiwihistory.com to learn more.
