PULASKI – Behind a punishing running game and a stout defensive effort, the Pulaski High School football team bounced back from a Week 3 loss in resounding fashion.
After losing a 46-0 game at the hands of No. 2 state-ranked Bay Port on Sept. 4, the Red Raiders came out strong in a 46-27 Fox River Classic Conference (FRCC) victory over Green Bay Preble in Week 4.
Pulaski (3-1 overall, 1-1 FRCC) got four rushing touchdowns from Anthony Ficarri, two from Bohdan Schmidt and another from Andre Burnett in the lopsided win over Preble (1-3, 0-2).
“I’m really proud of the effort tonight,” Pulaski Coach Jerad Marsh said. “We started a bit slow but made some adjustments at halftime. Preble came out ready to play and are well coached.”
The Hornets got a pair of late fourth-quarter TDs after quarterback Harrison Selk found Elliott Komp on 74-yard and 10-yard scoring strikes with the game already decided.
The Red Raiders jumped out to a 6-0 lead a few minutes into the game when Schmidt rumbled 18 yards for a score on a fourth-down play.
Preble came right back when Prince Gage scampered in from 17 yards out halfway through the first quarter.
After an 85-yard kickoff return for a TD by Burnett was wiped out due to a penalty, Ficarri scored the first of his four scores.
The two-point conversion attempt failed for a 12-7 Pulaski lead.
In the second quarter, Schmidt (16 yards) and Ficarri (12 yards) added scores, while the Hornets’ Kaden Morales added his own rushing TD.
With the Red Raiders taking a 25-14 lead into intermission, Ficarri scored his third TD of the night in the third quarter after Schmidt set the score up with a 49-yard rush to inside the five-yard line.
Burnett’s 83-yard score late in the quarter made it 39-14 after Mason Borseth’s extra point.
A blocked punt by Pulaski at the Hornets’ three-yard line set up Ficarri’s final score of the night.
The Red Raiders travel to Ashwaubenon (3-1, 1-1) for a Week 5 showdown, while Preble hosts Green Bay Southwest (2-2, 0-2).
