Behind a high-powered offense and a combined shutout on the mound, De Pere dominated Appleton East on Monday, cruising to a 12-0 victory. The Redbirds utilized two massive six-run innings to dismantle the Patriots' defense and secure a decisive win.
After a scoreless opening frame, De Pere’s bats came alive in the bottom of the second. The inning began with the Redbirds loading the bases through a combination of two walks and a base hit. Max Zimmerman (#8) stepped to the plate with the bases loaded and delivered the first blow, a two-RBI single that gave De Pere the lead.
The pressure didn’t stop there. Capitalizing on another hit and a defensive error by the Patriots, De Pere tacked on two more runs, ending the second inning with a commanding 6-0 lead.
The third inning proved to be a mirror image of the second, as De Pere’s offense remained relentless. The Redbirds hung another six runs on the scoreboard to double their lead. The definitive moment of the night belonged to Isaac Herlache (#22), who stepped up with the bases loaded. Herlache launched a towering double that cleared the bases, driving in three runs, putting the Redbirds up 12-0.
Appleton East looked to mount a comeback in the top of the fourth, finding a rhythm at the plate to load the bases. However, the Patriots were unable to find the timely hit needed to break the shutout, leaving three runners stranded. De Pere threatened again in the bottom half of the inning, advancing a runner to second, but the game remained stalled at twelve.
The story of the night was as much about the pitching as it was the hitting. Will Nikolay earned the start for De Pere, delivering four scoreless innings to keep the Patriots off balance.
In the final stretch, De Pere turned to Zimmerman to move from the field to the pitcher's mound. Zimmerman mirrored his offensive success with a clean relief appearance, stifling the Appleton East bats one last time to finalize the 12-0 shutout.
