Seymour filmmaker earns national award

Seymour resident Dean Leisgang has earned a prestigious Telly Award in the Pro Bono category at the 46th Annual Telly Awards for his video project St. John the Baptist Catholic Church: A Journey Through 150 Years of Faith.

This national award recognizes excellence in video and television across all screens and is judged by leaders from video platforms, television networks, streaming services and production companies.

Produced independently by Leisgang through his company, Spicecake Productions, the commemorative video was created as a heartfelt tribute to St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Seymour in honor of the parish’s 150th anniversary.

The documentary-style production features archival photos, interviews with past and present parish leaders and a compelling narrative chronicling the church’s enduring legacy across generations.

Dean’s exceptional work on the 150th anniversary video not only tells the story of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, but brings it to life with grace, creativity, and heart,” Fr. Sengole Dass, St. John’s Pastor, stated. “His dedication and talent have earned this well-deserved recognition, and we are incredibly proud to celebrate this achievement with him.”

The video premiered during the parish’s 150th anniversary celebration this past year.

Leisgang, who specializes in mission-driven storytelling, frequently lends his expertise to nonprofits and community organizations through his communications work.
