I am currently employed as a video journalist in television news.
My work involves interviewing people in the community, capturing video in the field, editing stories for broadcast and operating the equipment needed for live shots.
It’s a role that requires having a strong sense of visual storytelling and the technical ability to bring those moments to the screen.
My time in the Pass It Forward program was both professionally and personally rewarding.
It gave me hands-on newsroom experience contributing to stories on deadline, adapting quickly when news breaks and working as part of a team under pressure.
The consistent assignments gave me invaluable opportunities to hone my photography craft.
Capturing a variety of subjects in different conditions taught me how to think quickly, adjust on the fly and always look for the best way to tell a story visually.
Working on the weekly installment of “People of Brown County” was one of the most valuable assignments I received.
It helped me grow my skills approaching people on the street and sharpened my interviewing style.
On a personal level the program showed me the value of mentorship and support.
The encouragement I received from the Press Times staff helped me believe in myself and my abilities.
It also reminded me of the importance of community-focused journalism and how meaningful it is to give people a voice through storytelling.
Looking back, that experience wasn’t just the start of my photojournalism career, it was when I confirmed I was on the right path.
The Pass It Forward internship program is sponsored by Nicolet National Bank and the Packers Give Back.
