Shopping small, saving big

Posted

On Saturday, Nov. 29, the city districts, small businesses, the City of Green Bay and Fox Communities Credit Union are coming together again for the annual Small Business Saturday.

Over 41 businesses have signed up and are offering deals for customers to shop local and small, while still saving a few pennies along the way.

“Many of our small businesses are family-owned and operated. Keeping local dollars in our community is very important for those business owners. Not to mention getting a deal! We all like to see the specials they offer on this day,” said Leah Weycker, executive director of the Military Avenue Business District.
While saving money on deals, you can scan QR codes at checkout to be entered into a giveaway. Three winners will be chosen after Nov. 29, and each will win a gift basket valued at $250.

What started as an event with American Express has evolved into a city-wide celebration of local shops and appreciation for small businesses.

“When people come out and support and have human interactions, even that is just another whole level of awesomeness, but I do really think that it goes a long way and is something we will never be able to replace,” said Director of Marketing and Communications at Downtown Green Bay, Inc., Red Sember.

Small Business Saturday is not only a way to continue with good deals, in case you didn’t get enough during Black Friday, but also a way to give back to the places that keep the city alive.

“I’m excited to see Green Bay residents and visitors discover new local businesses and reconnect with their favorites. Small Business Saturday is an event to celebrate how much creativity and heart our local businesses bring to the community,” said Jessica Maes, business support specialist for the City of Green Bay.

Nov. 29 is one of the best times of year for small businesses around Green Bay.

The weekend after Thanksgiving is one of the times when small businesses generate the most of their annual revenue, making this a very special event.

“Hearing from businesses themselves of how successful it [Small Business Saturday] was, how positively it impacts their sales for the year,” said Sember.

“Even the smallest impact on those businesses to help, personally and professionally, makes me feel as though this is all worth it.”
