BROWN COUNTY – County Executive Troy Strechenbach presented Brown County’s 2027 budget proposal last week, featuring funding for several infrastructure investments and the county’s lowest property tax rate on record.
“We worked hard to put together this 2027 budget plan, which strikes the right balance of maintaining the services our residents rely on, while at the same time is mindful of the cost to property taxpayers,” said Streckenbach. “I’m honored to put forth a budget that prioritizes a sustainable, long-term approach that better aligns county revenue with the actual cost of delivering services.”
The proposed 2027 mill rate is $2.54, $0.12 lower than last year’s mill rate of $2.66, and will be the lowest mill rate on record for the county if it is approved.
The proposed budgeted levy for 2027 is $97.77 million, which includes $1.5 million in net new construction and the closure of some Tax Increment Districts (TIDs).
Under the proposed budget, the county’s outstanding debt will decrease by $7.41 million in 2027, bringing the remaining total outstanding debt to $22.4 million.
The budget also includes funding for several major initiatives and infrastructure projects.
“We have 30+ departments that are really the heartbeat of the county, and it’s their teams that ultimately help us build this budget,” Streckenbach said.
Highlights of the 2027 budget proposal include funding for:
Continued work on the South Bridge Connector project
Nine different road, bridge and infrastructure projects
Phase 2 of the Port Development Site project
Long-term capital projects at Green Bay-Austin Straubel International Airport
Phase 2 of the South Landfill project
Improvements and projects at Bay Shore Park
Phase 3 of the Fairgrounds Master Plan
