The Plant People take on new ownership, more plants and a fresh logo

Posted

GREEN BAY – Plant enthusiast Rachel Ritter is now the new Owner of The Plant People after working at the plant nursery for nearly a decade.

New changes and updates for The Plant People coming up will be their new logo, more collector’s plants and a new website.

Ritter started out as a waterer for the company before she became a plant seller. She attributes all her knowledge to the former owners Loren Hansen and Gale McKenzie.

“First of all I really love plants, and I love the store. I love the fact that we make the community beautiful,” Ritter said.

The Plant People do their fair share of beautifying Green Bay. They take care of the pots along the sidewalks on Main Street, Washington Street and North Broadway.

When talking about the store itself, Ritter shared, “I feel at home here, it just feels right and natural.”

Ritter is passionate about educating customers about plants. When customers purchase a plant they will be told how to properly pot the plant and how much water and light it requires to thrive.

Additionally, she wants to have a wide variety of collector’s plants available for customers in store, “I want people when they come here to be like, ‘oh wow she has one of these?’”

The Plant People’s local customers consist of collectors, casual plant buyers and corporate businesses.

A special aspect about the store is that they have a section called Second Chance where they sell plants previously in a corporate setting for a discounted price.

Ritter explained how they often decorate office buildings for the holidays, create flower arrangements and service big events for the businesses.

Currently, they are getting the winter bows ready for the community.

People flock from all over to check out the store, according to Ritter. “This is a destination store, people drive up just to come here.”

With thousands of plants to choose from, Ritter hopes everyone can find a plant that they enjoy.

The most popular plants sold at The Plant People are Sansevieria, or snake plants.

Ritter credits the plant’s popularity due to them being known for being easy to take care of.

Some other plants sold in the store are succulents, pothos, ferns, montesteras, cacti, orchids and airplants.

Airplants are a special type of plant that do not require soil or potting in the traditional sense, they live in Florida and other tropical areas in trees.

Thai Constellations, Hoyas and Philodendrons and Ritter’s favorite plants.
The importance of plants in everyday life is also something that The Plant People want to convey.

Ritter said, “It’s a booming industry, it has a lot to do with mental health and wellness, and plants clean the air and make us happy.”
