GREEN BAY – The Notre Dame Academy Tritons (11-3 overall, 8-2 conf.) took down the Green Bay Preble Hornets (7-8 overall, 4-6 conf.) with a final score of 60-57 to maintain their spot towards the top of the Fox River Classic Conference (FRCC).
The Tritons currently sit in third place in the FRCC behind only the De Pere Redbirds (13-1 overall, 10-0 conf.) and the Sheboygan North Golden Raiders (13-3 overall, 8-2 conf.).
After placing eighth in the FRCC last season with a record of (11-16 overall, 8-10 conf.) the Tritons have found a way to climb back up towards the top of the standings this season.
“Well, I think we have gotten older — we returned a lot of guys from last year. The guys have really bought into the defensive concept. We consistently are holding teams 10 to 15 points under the season average and that’s really allowed us to be in all the games we played and win most of them so credit to them for committing to the defensive end and working through carrying the ball on offense so really good team result for us so far,” said Tritons Head Coach Brian Bobinski.
Despite leading the game consistently throughout the first half — the second half began with a score of 25-20 — the Tritons had to continue to battle as the Hornets kept the game tight for the remainder of the match.
A 41-41 score with just three minutes remaining would force the Tritons to find a way to pull ahead towards the end of the match.
“Yeah, it’s a credit to Preble. Their coach is doing a great job and they really are improving. From the first time we played them this year they played really hard and they just kept battling and never went away. Credit to them and I can only assume their team will find success throughout the end of the season,” said Bobinski.
Notre Dame Triton Senior Adam Guyette’s 20-point game no-doubt contributed to the team’s success on the court as well.
“(I’m proud of the fight that we had. We hit a couple rough patches, but to see us fight through it and end up winning the game (was great),” said Guyette.
After four consecutive away games, the Tritons will wrap up their long stint on the road with a Friday night game against Sheboygan South before coming home to host Pulaski on Tuesday, Feb. 4.
The Green Bay Preble Hornets will travel to play the Pulaski Red Raiders on Friday, Jan. 31.
