Posted

Green Bay – The West De Pere Phantoms (6-0 overall) defeated the Pulaski Red Raiders (4-2  overall) with a score of 35-10 on homecoming night.

“We executed pretty well, especially in the first half,” said West De Pere Head Coach Kegan  Wirtz.

Recap

West De Pere was able to jump out to an early 14-0 lead with 9:50 left in the second quarter  thanks to a touchdown from Kainan Strong. With 1:15 left in the first half West De Pere  added onto their lead with a touchdown throw from quarterback Andrew Greisen to Darian  Acevedo-Ortiz, giving the Phantoms a 21-0 halftime lead.

West De Pere added another touchdown with a touchdown catch by Morgan Mertens to  give the Phantoms a 28-0 lead. The Red Raiders would score their first points of the game  off a field goal from Mason Borseth on the first play of the 4th quarter.

West De Pere would add one last touchdown to make the game 35-3 off a touchdown catch  from Morgan Mertens. The Red Raiders then scored their first touchdown of the game with  13 seconds left in the 4th quarter to make the score 35-10 which was the final score.

“We knew it was going to be a tough win tonight, and with such a big crowd and supportive  fans it was awesome, it’s a great environment here,” said Phantoms quarterback Andrew  Greisen.

“As an offense we played well and together as a team, and it really worked out well for us in  the end,” said Greisen.

I also talked with Greisen about what his favorite homecoming activity is during  homecoming week, and he talked about how he enjoys helping coach the Powderpuff  team.

“The Powderpuff team got their first win of our high school careers, so that was pretty  awesome,” said Greisen.

I spoke with Head Coach Kegan Wirtz, and we talked about how the defense was able to be  so efficient against the Pulaski Red Raiders.

“I thought we tackled pretty well, we did a great job getting guys to the ball, and being  aggressive,” said Wirtz.

“Offensively and defensively, we got the stops on defense, offense kept the chains moving,  we were very efficient especially in the first half with what we did,” said Wirtz.

Next week the West De Pere Phantoms will travel to Bay Port to take on the Pirates (6-0  overall) in a huge conference matchup.

The Pulaski Red Raiders will look to get back on the winning track next week when they host  the Green Bay Southwest Fighting Trojans (2-4 overall).
