Through interviews with both the restaurateurs and loyal regulars of 45 more supper clubs throughout Wisconsin — and now also featuring establishments in Illinois, Iowa, and Minnesota — supper club specialist and author Ron Faiola once again takes readers deep into the world of this authentic Midwestern experience with Wisconsin Supper Clubs: One for the Road.
Faiola compiles vibrant stories and vivid photographs, highlighting each club’s distinctive character, owners and classic dishes. The book is organized into geographic sections, a convenient feature for those planning their next road trips.
Wisconsin Supper Clubs: One for the Road is the fifth book in Faiola’s award-winning series.
“It was fun to revisit supper clubs for Wisconsin Supper Clubs: Second Edition, but after that was released, I began visiting places that were new to me and wanted to create a book dedicated to profiling these new worthy destinations and hidden gems,” Faiola said. “As far as the title, One for the Road means one more bite, one more sip, one more glimpse of a scenic view — but mainly it means that the book should be taken on the road on supper club adventures. That way, folks can have the book signed by the supper club owners and staff, creating a nice memento of their travels.”
Wisconsin Supper Clubs: One for the Road embodies the classic traditions of intergenerational community, familial hospitality and delicious food made from scratch, while also expanding to the whole Midwest region.
In Northeast Wisconsin, featured supper clubs include Brown’s Corner, Gobbler’s Knob Supper Club, Hillcrest Lodge Supper Club, Hotel Seymour Supper Club, Off the Wolf Supper Club, The Red Ox Seafood and Steakhouse, Union Hotel and Restaurant and Wildflower Supper Club.
Through these supper clubs’ unique profiles and scenic locations, Faiola demonstrates why this century-old dining tradition is making a comeback.
“I’ve been immersed in supper club culture for over 15 years,” Faiola said. “Having visited around 200 supper clubs in my lifetime, I still find it absolutely fascinating, especially having witnessed the all-out enthusiasm people have for this special dining tradition. Folks happily share recommendations for new places to try and offer tips on favorite dishes.”
Wisconsin Supper Clubs: One for the Road is available for pre-order now and will be released on Sept. 11.
