Alice’s Greenhouse prepared to take on the spring season

Posted

Alice’s Greenhouse is an eccentric and colorful oasis for all things garden related.

A heaven for gardeners, this greenhouse is a beautiful structure full of light, warmth and care. From vegetables to poinsettias and fall mums to marigolds, the shop has a wide selection of plants and vegetables. Alice’s Greenhouse also offers potted plants and hanging plants, as well as flower pots.

Now, returning for another beautiful spring season, Alice’s Greenhouse is busy at work.

The location appears deceptively small on the outside, however as you enter the vast shop, it reveals itself to cover multiple glass houses, full to the brim with dozens of varieties and species of flowers.

The main hallway that leads up to each of the glassrooms is also filled with hanging flower pots already arranged and ready to come home with a customer.

Formerly known as Bonnie’s Greenhouse, the sanctuary has been around for over a decade, and was recently renamed as Alice’s Greenhouse after former owner Steve Mayefske’s mother.

Located at 4040 Velp Ave. in Howard, the nursery offers a variety of plants, greenery and general gardening supplies.

In the future, they hope to develop the space further, offering other services or opening additional enterprises — Steve Mayefske’s step son Ben Britney also owns a greenhouse under the name Dragonfly Greenhouse, located at 1720 Swan Road.

After over thirty years in the gardening and flowers business, Steve Mayefske hopes to continue being employed there for as long as he can be.

“Although I am no longer the official owner of the business myself, I do hope to hold on to this position for as long as my health lets me. This work…it’s rewarding. That’s what it is. Everyone loves flowers, it’s color and it’s life. I want to share that joy and I want to give back to people. I think that’s what it’s all about, you know? Giving.”

Alice’s Greenhouse website is currently under construction, but the official facebook of the shop offers information on promotions and sales.

Generally open from 9 a.m.-6 p.m. Monday through Thursday, Alice’s Greenhouse is prepared to take on this spring like a whirlwind.
