Brown County Library holds Renaissance Faire for all ages

Posted

The Weyers-Hilliard branch of the Brown County Library will be hosting the sixth Brown County Library Renaissance Faire Saturday, May 9 from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. This event is free, though there will be food trucks and local vendors to purchase from.

This event will have a wide variety of activities, both indoors and outdoors.

Featured performances include: Mischief & Magic show at 11:15 a.m., Open Door Bird Sanctuary birds of prey presentation at 12:30 p.m. and Wisconsin Historical Fencing Association demonstration at 1:45 p.m. Throughout the event, there will also be reenactments, demonstrations, music, crafts and plenty of other activities to enjoy.

New this year is a reenactment by the Society of the Middle Ages.

“We call it a Renaissance Faire, but we actually include the Renaissance, the Middle Ages and the Viking era,” explained Amy Greatens, library service associate for the Weyers-Hilliard Branch Library and coordinator of the event.

Bergstrom-Mahler Museum of Glass is also returning this year for glass blowing demonstrations.

These activities can be enjoyed by a variety of age groups and are educational for all.

“I really like that we have such a variety of things for every age group,” said Greatens. “No matter what you’re interested in, no matter what age you are, you are going to find something that you want to see.”

This event is also great because it is on a smaller scale in comparison to other Renaissance festivals.

“I like to think of this as a trial run for a Ren Faire,” explained Greatens. “[It’s] a little overwhelming if you’ve never been to a Ren Faire before, you don’t know what to expect or you don’t know if your kids are ready for an event like that. This is a great way to get a taste of what a Renaissance Faire is.”
