Friends of the Brown County Library kick off annual Give-A-Kid-A-Book campaign

Posted

The Friends of the Brown County Library announced the launch of the 38th annual Give-A-Kid-A-Book campaign this week, inviting individuals, families, businesses, churches, schools, clubs and organizations to donate new, unwrapped books that will be given as gifts to local children, babies through age 18, of families in need.

“By the end of this year, we’ll have shared over 400,000 books to local area children in the Brown County Community,” said Give-A-Kid-A-Book Chair Matt Kolpien. “Give-A-Kid-A-Book believes that books have the power to travel the world. Books allow us to discover new adventures and places just by reading some words on a page… Last year we were able to help over 5,800 children in the area — babies, children and young adults — travel the world through generosity.”

Honorary literacy ambassador Bre LaFleur, wife of Green Bay Packers Head Coach Matt LaFleur, joined the Friends of the Brown County Library to kick off this year’s campaign.

“I’ve been fortunate enough to be a part of this for the last couple years and it’s been an extremely rewarding opportunity,” she said. “This campaign is something that is so important, not only for our community, but for all the children that it truly does affect. We think about reading as something that is so simple and something that we do or learn as children that we’re teaching our children now, but sometimes we take that for granted. The reality is not every child has the same opportunity when it comes to reading and having access to books.”

Give-A-Kid-A-Book is funded in part by Nicolet National Bank, Rotary Foundation of Green Bay, Green Bay Area Retired Men’s Club, De Pere Christian Outreach, Green Bay Packers Give Back, Allouez Optimist Club, Brown County Community Women’s Club, Altrusa, WPS Foundation, and Festival Foods.

Book distribution takes place in partnership with the Green Bay Salvation Army Holiday Assistance program in December.

Those wishing to donate can purchase books from the Friends’ Amazon Wish List (tinyurl.com/GiveAKidABookWishlist), or from Lion’s Mouth Bookstore, 211 N. Washington Street in downtown Green Bay.

Barnes & Noble purchases can be donated during the in-store book fair on Saturday, Nov. 21, 2025, from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. or online Nov. 21-26. Use code 12946810 and a percentage of sales will benefit Give-A-Kid-A-Book.

Online shoppers can ship books purchased directly to the library. Drop book donations in collection boxes located at Nicolet National Banks in the greater Green Bay area, all Brown County Libraries and various other locations throughout the community through Dec. 10.
