Luna Glo Candle Bar opens on Broadway

Posted

Green Bay’s Broadway District got a little warmer and brighter this week as Luna Glo Candle Bar celebrated its opening at 107 N Broadway with a ribbon-cutting ceremony.

While candle bars have already popped up in other parts of the country, Luna Glo will be the first of its kind in the Green Bay area.

“I was ready to get out of corporate America and so I started looking at different business ideas,” Owner Sherry Smith said. “I’d seen a candle bar franchise that’s out on the east coast, so I started researching what a candle bar was and thought it would be a great concept to bring to the Green Bay area. There’s nothing like it here that I was aware of and I feel like we can always use more stuff to do here, especially in these cold winter months.”
Smith said that although the business itself is new to the area, the concept is not all that different from one many may already be familiar with.
“It’s similar to a paint-and-sip experience, except instead of paint it’s with wax,” she said.

At Luna Glo Candle Bar, customers can make a reservation online to come in and create their own custom candle — choosing everything from the scents that go into the candle to the vessel that holds it.

“You come in and I offer over 90 different fragrances — I currently have 93 — and you choose up to three to mix and match into your candle. There’s no two candles made the same because you can decide on how much of each fragrance you want to put into the candle. And then I have two dozen different vessels to choose from, so I have different colors and styles. I walk you through the whole process, so you’ll actually even put the wick into the vessel and put the labels on.”

The initial process of selecting scents, adding the wick, pouring the wax and labeling your candle can take anywhere from an hour to an hour and a half. After that, Smith said customers can wait in her lounge space or check out what else the Broadway District has to offer before their candles are ready to bring home.

“Once you’ve completed making your candle, it takes another 60-90 minutes to cure,” Smith said. “In that time, I have a lounge space so you can hang out here if you’d like. I have games that customers can play and just hang out together. Otherwise, I’m right here in the Broadway District, so there’s plenty of shops and restaurants to visit while you wait.”

Smith said Luna Glo can also host private parties and corporate events, and she plans to offer opportunities for couples to create custom-scented candles to hand out as wedding favors.
