‘Materialized Again’ brings fiber art to the Neville Public Museum

Posted

A new exhibit, Materialized Again, opened at the Neville Public Museum on Sept. 13.

Women Who Run With Scissors, a completed fiber arts group of 15 women from around Wisconsin, now has their unique and vibrant art showcased on the museum’s walls.

With the hope of inspiring people to create various types of art, Women Who Run With Scissors provides a space for solo artistic creativity within a collaborative setting.

Being spread around the state can make any collaborative activity a challenge, but this group of artists has managed to create and stretch their artwork while being miles apart through Zoom. Women Who Run With Scissors has developed a form of critique that suits them.

“We bring questions about our pieces to the meetings. We take the critiques we favor and consider the others,” said Lindi Kuritz, one of the group’s members. “When we come see the works in person, it is just like, ‘Wow!’”

A featured collection of art quilts titled “Hidden Miracles” is the starting point of the exhibit.

This collection is considered a challenge for the group of artists — the women are given a prompt and interact with it how they see fit.

This collection is a homage to the little and often overlooked things around that don’t receive much attention.

Some of these quilts feature pomegranates and the luck that follows, working bees, the forest floor, the beauty of getting lost and so much more.

While Women Who Run With Scissors has other exhibits in the works, they are enjoying the launch of their third exhibit at the Neville Public Museum.

“There are two ways to view art,” said Kuritz, “Through the eyes of the artist and the viewer.”

Materialized Again will be displayed at the Neville until Nov. 9, with plenty of pieces for anyone’s eyes to enjoy. Join in the viewing at 210 Museum Place.

There is even a seek-and-find activity for younger viewers to appreciate and engage with the fiber art.
