OSHKOSH-Ashwaubenon Jaguar wrestler Cody Minor went into the prestigious Oshkosh holiday wrestling tournament as one of the top seeds (Dec. 29 and 30).
After it was all said and done, he was crowned the Champion at the 106-pound classification.
Minor managed two falls in his opening rounds of competition.
He then beat his quarterfinal and semi-final opponents by a combined score of 30-3 to advance to the finals vs Justin Groshek of Stevens Point.
Groshek came into the contest off a sixth place podium finish at the State Tournament in 2016. Minor was looking to crash the party.
Minor came out and dictated the style early. Groshek managed to cut the margin late, but Minor used his excellent wrestling skill to win a 5-3 decision and thus the winner of the 64-team event!
With the victory, Minor advances to 19-1 on the year.
Fernando Coronado (126 lbs.) put forth an excellent performance as well down in Oshkosh winning his first five bouts before succumbing to Robert Precin of Andrews High School (Illinois) in the final.
In the semis, Coronado avenged the 4-3 loss he suffered to Mason McMillan of Reedsburg in last year’s State Tournament.
This time Coronado flipped the switch on McMillan by defeating him 10-7 in a hotly contested semi-final matchup.
Noah Leisgang (113 lbs.) continues to impress in his sophomore campaign.
Leisgang captured five of his six matchups in winning third place.
In all, he had three falls, a regular decision, and a major decision for his victories.
Connor Ramage (132 lbs.) sometimes gets overshadowed by the ‘super sophomores on the Jaguar squad.
However, Ramage is quickly making a name for himself as a freshman on the Jaguar wrestling squad.
Ramage has quietly carved out a 17-5 season so far that included an impressive fifth place showing at OTW.
Ramage won six of his eight matches.
His last four wins were all close decisions that were decided by three or fewer points.
Also placing for the Jaguars was Freshman Nathan Moynihan who finished ninth overall.
As a team, the Jaguars finished 4th out of 64 teams with 197.5 points.
