At what age did you start playing your main sport?
Six years old.
How were you introduced to the sport?
My dads family is a hockey family. He played and coached at St. Norbert College. He put my sister and I both in skates when we were little and the hockey rink became our second home!
Has this always been your favorite sport?
Outside of sports, do you have any hobbies or extracurriculars you enjoy?
Practicing, playing and training as a three-sport athlete keeps me pretty busy. In my little free time, I enjoy spending time with my sister and going shopping. I enjoy working out, reading, golfing with friends, going to concerts and travelling as well.
How do you balance your time between school, practice and other commitments?
School is always the top priority in my family. With both of my parents working in education, I have been taught to value my time at school.
As a person and an athlete, how do you think you’ve grown throughout highschool?
I have noticed a tremendous development in my leadership skills. Being named an assistant captain on the hockey team as an underclassman my sophomore year forced me to step up into a role I wasn’t super confident in. However, I had many role models to look up to and I was quickly able to find out what kind of leader I did, and didn’t, want to be. I would now say empathy and understanding paired with organizational skills and maturity are the most important qualities in leadership.
What about your sport motivates you and drives your passion?
The idea of being a part of something bigger drives my passion for hockey. The way our team has become a family inspires me to want to show up and work hard. Especially this year, we not only played with each other, we played for each other. We push each other to get better every day, we hold each other accountable, and we are there to support one another through the highs and lows. My teammates are my best friends and I know our bond will last even after we all move on.
Do you have a favorite memory or experience from your high school sport?
Do you have a specific ritual to get pumped before a game?
I love going for a quick run outside after our team stretches before I put my gear on. Especially when it’s cold this gets my heart racing and my blood pumping.
Favorite pump up song before a game?
We listen to Rise by Katy Perry to dial in and get hype for every game.
Do you have a favorite beverage to drink during a game? (Gatorade, Powerade, Water)
Gatorade Zero.
Is there someone, close or famous, that motivates you?
My parents have been my biggest motivators since day one. They push me to be my best and support me in any decision I make. I owe much of my success to them and their dedication to my athletics throughout my childhood.
Has anyone, coach or teammate, been a big influence in your athletic career?
As you graduate, what is the biggest takeaway, academically or athletically, that you will carry with you as you venture on a new journey?
The biggest thing I will take with me these next few years is the importance of being a good person. I have learned that life is so much bigger than the small stressors of each day and the connections we make and the impressions we leave is what truly matters. Wherever life takes me, I will try my best to be a good person.
Future Plans? (college, major, career, etc.)
I am commuted to play hockey at UW Eau Claire where I will study Biology with Environmental Science.
