Career Highlight: Receiving my varsity letter and becoming captain are the two moments that I personally cherish the most. When I received my varsity letter I was extremely excited seeing as I had never been a part of a high school sport and this was my first real recognition that I got from playing. I remember being at the banquet and not knowing if I got it and then I saw the shadow of the letter in the envelope. I genuinely almost jumped up and down out of excitment. Being named captain was also an incredibly memorable experience because I honestly wasn’t sure that I was going to be offered that big of a leadership position. However, my coach did end up naming me and another fellow senior as captains for the season and I couldn’t be more happy about it!

At what age did you start playing your main sport?
Five, but I didn’t play through middle school as I had just moved here and didn’t really know anybody. I started playing again my sophomore year of high school.

Who introduced you to the sport?
My parents introduced me when I was very young through a league called AYSO, which my sister also played in.

Has this always been your favorite sport? Why?
No, in middle school I played volleyball and my favorite sport temporarily changed. However, when I got into high school it switched back to soccer.

What motivates you to keep pushing, despite obstacles you face?
The fact that I don’t know what happens next. The future is still undecided and I can change mine.

How has balancing academics and athletics been different for you from your freshman year to your senior year?

Yes, through sophomore and junior year there was a lot less stress on my academics because my work wasn’t as difficult as it is now and there wasn’t as much. However, this year I have felt more pressure to get in my work. With advanced classes and many extracurriculars I have found it harder to balance my work along with the many events I still have to complete before graduation. So yes, over the years it has gotten harder to balance my academics and my athletics because I just kept taking on more opportunities. However, I have tried my best to achieve great things in both categories.

What is one goal you’ve set for yourself that you’re especially proud of achieving?
A goal that I set for myself and am proud of achieving is hitting 250 volunteer hours. I have worked incredibly hard over the last four years to give back in the best ways possible and hitting this goal is a big milestone to me.

What is something about your sport that other people might not realize?
Soccer isn’t just about running but it’s also a lot about strategy. While you do need to run and keep up with the other team you also need to think about what the other team is thinking, you need to be able to predict their next move.

What would you say is your biggest asset as an athlete?
I think my biggest strength as an athlete is the fact that I stay open-minded. Being able to take constructive criticism is important and it helps me better develop my skill sets. I always try to understand feedback someone gives me and adapt to that feedback.

What has been your most memorable experience in high school sports so far?
I would say the bus rides to away games during my sophomore year are the most memorable moments of my high school sports experience. The older girls on the team would bring a speaker and play some music that gets us in a good mood and ready to play. It was such a new experience to me and it helped me form friendships with the girls on the team.

Do you have any dreams related to athletics?

I would love to teach a younger team! I think coaching a young team would be fun and I know that I would love to help younger kids find their love in sports.

What do you like to do outside of athletics?
I like to read, watch movies, listen to music and hangout with my friends in my free time.

How do you get ready for an intense practice or competition?
I stretch as much as I can and tell myself no matter what the outcome is I have to give my best on the field and leave it on the field when it is over.

If you could have any superpower to help in your athletic career, what would it be?
I think the best superpower to help in my athletic career would be super speed. With super speed I would be able to bolt around the whole field and steal the ball from the opposing team.

What music hypes you up before a game? Is there a specific song?
Loud music. It doesn’t usually matter what kind of music it is, it just has to be loud. However, one of my favorites to play on bus rides is “Breathe” by Yeat.

Favorite pregame snack/drink?

I love a good granola bar before a game but it can’t be super sweet.

As you graduate high school, what is something you will take away, either academically or athletically, that you will carry with you as you venture on a new journey?
My biggest take away from high school would be to try my hardest in everything. I can never be mad at myself if my best isn’t enough if I gave it my all.

Future Plans? (college, major, career, etc.)
I have received a full ride to Marquette where I will be majoring in Applied Physics.
