The Bay Port Pirates (8-2) took on the Bradley Tech/Milwaukee Arts (BTMA) Trojans (5-5) on Friday in the first round of the WIAA playoffs. The game ended with a 56-12 Pirates win, advancing Head Coach Steven Jorgensen and his team to the second round of the playoffs.
Bay Port’s defense held their own after giving up a score in the first quarter. They were able to get turnovers, and give the offense good field position and set them up to score. The Pirate’s offense responded to BTMA’s score by putting up a score for themselves. Running Back Brady Moon would then score again in the start of the second quarter. “Feels pretty good to advance, but the job's not done. We have to keep grinding and keep fixing our mistakes and getting better to be one of eight teams to advance,” said Moon.
Quarterback Matt Stevens also put up two scores in the second quarter, throwing touchdowns to two different receivers. It feels good to come in and get the win. We now have to stay focused and be prepared for next week,” said Stevens. The team was fired up going into halftime, with a score of 42-6. The Pirates finished the game strong, and never let up, securing the win.
Coach Jorgensen was proud of how his guys played tonight. “The expectation was to come out and handle business right away,” said Jorgensen. Coach Jorgensen was happy to get some other players playing time and that everyone is healthy going into next week. He was also pleased with how his guys came into the game focused and ready to play. “It comes down to discipline and focus playing through these games, and playing to the best of your ability,” said Jorgensen.
The Bay Port Pirates (8-2) look to take on Sheboygan North (7-3) next week in the second round of the playoffs.
