‘This Murder Was Staged’ is this year's fall play at Bay Port High School with shows Friday, Oct. 23, and Saturday Oct. 24 at 7 p.m.
Audiences are able to buy tickets on the Bay Port High School website under the PAC tab.
“This play is a super fun–interactive murder mystery, in that the audience almost becomes one of the characters in the show. We break the fourth wall, the audience gets referenced quite a bit, and some of our characters even emerge from the audience,” said Bay Port High School English teacher and play director Jaclyn Beattie, giving an inside scoop on the murder mystery.
“The central theme is you can’t judge everything at face value,” said Beattie.
The production is about a backstage comedy where a ‘real murder’ interrupts the play, in which a theatre director is murdered during the middle of the play.
With the help from Detective Drake, the audience gets to help solve the mystery.
The show stars Bay Port seniors Emma Hardy, Norah Shefchik, Sadie Smith, Carter Tebon and James Caelwearts and required the cast to focus on timing as they prepared to entertain audiences.
“The biggest challenge of this production that we had to face was the comedic timing, any time we do a comedy it's always kind of a challenge and a lot of the lines are written to have most of the comedy be from the timing,” said Beattie.
